Educational games and marble runs

S02-3 Maths-Memory

S02-3 Maths-Memory is an outdoor memory game in which geometry tasks take the place of pictures. The four faces of the cube carry shapes with formulas for area and perimeter, puzzles, shape-counting tasks and answers, so players can check their own results. It goes to schools, nurseries, education centres and public spaces.

Product description

One piece of equipment, several memory games

It all starts with turning one cube. The player reveals a picture, remembers its place in the row and looks for the other half of the pair - and the longer the game goes on, the less they guess. How do we know it is more than a game of matching pictures? Memory reached the shops in 1959, from an idea by the Swiss psychologist Heinrich Hurter, who noticed that children remember where pictures are better than adults do. The game trains spatial memory - the same system that lets people remember the way home and where they put something down. Here a topic comes on top of that: nature, geometry, history or the local area.

For these games to be played again and again for years, the equipment has to withstand any weather: rain, frost and sun. The frame is galvanised and powder-coated, and the cubes turn mechanically, with no electricity or electronics - there is nothing here that could stop working after the winter. The equipment has a declaration of conformity and a certificate from an accredited body, works outdoors all year round and is covered by a warranty. The manufacturer is EduPlayground, and the equipment is made in Poland.

Memory trained along the way

Looking for pairs trains working memory - the kind that holds information needed here and now for a moment. The player has to remember what they revealed a second ago and on which cube; the same ability later helps them remember a number or the beginning of a sentence.

A game for a group, not for one

Several children play at one unit at once: one turns a cube, the others watch and memorise, then they swap. Playing in turns teaches waiting for your turn, and adults play on equal terms, because memory doesn't favour age.

Learning that happens on the move

The cubes are turned by hand, and you walk around the equipment to see every face. A task solved at a spinning cube stays in the mind more firmly than the same thing copied from the school board into an exercise book, because the hand works together with the eye.

What's inside the equipment

Four elements that turn ordinary pair-matching into a game on a playground scale.

Rotating Dibond cubes

The cubes are made of dibond-type panel - an aluminium composite known from outdoor advertising, light and very durable. A light cube turns with one hand, and the durable panel copes with being turned again and again.

Four faces of each cube

Each cube has four sides, and each side carries something different: a picture to pair, a task, an answer or a piece of a bigger picture. One turn changes the whole board, so one piece of equipment holds several games instead of one.

Print under UV laminate

The pictures are printed on the cubes and protected with a laminate with increased UV resistance. The colours do not fade after a season in full sun, so the picture stays clear even where the equipment stands without a roof.

Upright frame with rows of cubes

The cubes sit in a vertical frame, set out in even rows and columns. You can walk all the way round the equipment and play standing up, and the fixed layout helps you remember positions: it is easier to go back to the third cube from the top than to ‘one of them somewhere’.

Personalisation

Memory in two sizes, with your own graphics

Catalogue models have ready-made graphics. In the personalised version, the look of the equipment changes, from the cubes to the frame, while the turning mechanism and the rules of the game stay the same.

  • Two sizes: 6x4 and 4x4

The larger version is Memory REGIO in a 6x4 layout, the smaller one Memory URBAN in a 4x4 layout, for places with less space. Personalisation covers both sizes to the same extent.

  • Your own designs on the cubes

Instead of a ready-made set of pictures, the cubes carry motifs designed to order. The theme is chosen by the customer - a nursery, school, local authority or parish - depending on what the equipment is meant to tell in that place.

  • Colour

The colour of the frame can be adapted to order - a frequent request. The scope of the change is agreed with an adviser. Standard colour according to the product data sheet: green (RAL 6018).
