Mirror Writing is a piece of educational playground equipment with a mirror. The mirror reflects a sticker with a labyrinth track, which you follow with a finger while looking only at the reflection, and the sticker comes in three designs to choose from. It works well in nurseries and pre-schools, schools, hospitals, hotels, education centres and public spaces.
The mirror reverses the movement, and the brain learns it anew
It all starts with a pane of mirror that swaps front and back in the reflection: moving a finger away from you along the sticker looks like moving it towards you. The reflex trained by looking straight at your hand then points the wrong way, so every stretch of the track takes careful thought. Scientists call this kind of task a test of hand-eye coordination and use it to measure how quickly the brain adjusts to a new movement. Mirror writing also has a famous master: Leonardo da Vinci kept his notebooks in it, readable only with a mirror.
How can you be sure Mirror Writing will last a whole year outdoors? The frame is steel, galvanised and powder-coated, so it withstands rain, frost and sun, and the equipment does not need to be put away for the winter. The equipment has a declaration of conformity and a certificate from an accredited body, and it is covered by a warranty. The manufacturer is EduPlayground, and the equipment is made in Poland.
A challenge where nobody has the upper hand
The reversed reflection levels the playing field: an adult has the same trained reflex to unlearn as a child, so at the mirror both start from scratch. The first attempts come out crooked for everyone, and with each one the finger listens a little better.
Precision that will help with writing
The narrow labyrinth track teaches the finger precise, controlled movement, and the slower you go, the more accurate you are. It is the same hand precision needed later to guide a pencil along a line in an exercise book.
Always ready, nothing gets used up
A finger leaves no mark on the sticker, so the exercise uses no paper or other materials, and there is nothing to tidy up afterwards. Just walk up to the mirror: at break time, during free play or while waiting for a parent.
What makes up Mirror Writing
Three elements: the mirror reflects the track together with the finger, two sides allow practice in pairs, and the housing stands on a post.
Mirror pane
The upright mirror reflects the sticker with the labyrinth track together with the finger moving along it. The reflection shows at once where the finger has strayed off the track, so the movement is corrected during the exercise, not only after it ends.
Two sides of the equipment
The equipment is double-sided, so two people can practise at the same time, one on each side of the mirror. They can race each other on the same task or compare whose finger strays less in the labyrinth.
Housing on a post
The box-shaped housing stands on a single post and holds the mirror and the track sticker. The sticker lies at the bottom of the housing, and the mirror is inside it, opposite the open side.
Sticker designs
Which labyrinth the mirror reflects
The frame, mirror and technical data are the same for all versions; the only difference is the design of the track sticker. Each design has its own catalogue number.
Standard labyrinth
The standard version of the labyrinth track sticker. It supports hand-eye coordination and concentration, the two skills that practice at the mirror calls for.
Catalogue no. I07-1
Eco-labyrinth
A labyrinth track with an ecological theme. As well as coordination and concentration, it supports environmental awareness, and the theme of the track can open a conversation about ecology in class.
Catalogue no. I07-2
Forest labyrinth
A forest take on the labyrinth track. It trains coordination and concentration while supporting environmental awareness, so it suits nature lessons.
Catalogue no. I07-3
The sticker design is chosen when ordering. A sticker with your own track design is described in the Personalisation section.
Personalisation
Equipment with your own track design and colour
The ready-made sticker designs are not always enough. Personalisation does not change how the equipment works, only how it looks and the track you see in the mirror.
Sticker design
Instead of one of the ready-made designs, the sticker has a track designed to order, on a theme you choose.
Colour
The colour can be adapted to order - it is a common request. The scope of the change is agreed with an adviser. Standard colour according to the product data sheet: green (RAL 6018).
Before the equipment goes into the playground, our adviser will help you plan all the technical details. We are with you at every stage of the project, sharing our knowledge and experience so that the equipment serves children as well as possible for many years.
Once you enter your email address, the catalogue of science, sensory and therapeutic equipment is sent to your inbox.
